An Accidental Journey

“Faith” by Erl Sandstrom.

The Door County Art League (DCAL) Gallery at the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek is featuring the photography of Erl Sandstrom and paintings by Anita Evers during Aug. 16 – 22.

For Sandstrom, the journey is more important than the destination. So it’s not surprising that he chose to pursue nature photography as a way of seeing and enjoying all the beauty that surrounds his home in Door County. To this end, Sandstrom has studied with naturalist Roy Lukes at the Clearing in Ellison Bay.

Evers discovered her talent for painting later in life and quite by accident, while repairing a garden stone that she had received as a gift. Though not formally educated in art, Evers has a gift for capturing the spirit of her subject in her realistic approach to landscape and portrait painting with acrylics and oils. Considering her “beginner” status, Evers was surprised when her painting, “The Light in the Window,” won First Place at the 2009 Spring Art Festival sponsored by the Art Garage in Green Bay.

The DCAL gallery is open every day except Wednesday from 11 am to 5 pm (3 pm on Sundays). It is located in the rear courtyard of the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek. For more information visit doorcountyartleague.org.
