An Arts Sampling

Sampler classes at The Clearing provide a great opportunity to explore several types of art or fine craft in a single week. The craft sampler scheduled for the week of May 4th features fused glass, wood turning and paper arts, taught, respectively, by local artists Gary Chaudoir, Rich Stultz and Nancy Akerly.

Monday and Tuesday will be devoted to fused glass. Students will make a six-inch dish or bowl, along with several pieces of jewelry, incorporating frits, stringers, dichroic glass, glass powders, wires and metals into the glass.

Wednesday and Thursday will focus on wood turning. Safe use of lathes and wood turning tools will be demonstrated and taught. Students will complete several pieces from a list of potential projects—pens, wine bottle stoppers, candlesticks and small vases.

On Friday, students will explore paper arts by making a book and a box. They’ll learn how to bind a journal or sketchbook and make a matching hinged box, using book board and decorative papers.
