An Evening of Glass Organ

Within Things is hosting Indianapolis-based composer and instrument builder Rob Funkhouser for a solo concert on Aug. 20, 7 pm. For this concert, Funkhouser will play his Glass Organ, an instrument he modeled after the rare Cristal Baschet, developed by Bernard and Francoise Baschet in 1952.

Sonically, the instrument creates tones made by rubbing a series of glass rods that produce clusters of sound, implying distant strings and harmonic choirs.

Funkhouser is a composer, performer and instrument builder whose work is concerned with ideas of place, memory, pattern and interrogating the interstitial spaces between established genres. In 2020, he began a long-term living residency with Big Car as part of its APLR program. He also serves as education manager for the Rhythm Discovery Center, where he runs public programming for schools and community members.

Within Things is located at 242 Michigan Street, Ste. B3 in Sturgeon Bay. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at withinthings.com.
