An Evening of Jazz at Lost Moth with Rachel Drew and Tony Richards

Rachel Drew of Chicago will perform jazz standards and new jazz originals, all in the style of Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass, as part of the Lost Moth Concert Series on Aug. 17 at 7 pm.

“[Rachel Drew] can turn a phrase from a wistful whisper to a smoky growl, delivering lyrics and melody that comfort with the familiarity of a great pop chanteuse while establishing a style unique unto herself. Drew is an artist to keep an eye, and ear, on as she and her band celebrate and explore the traditions of great American songwriting,” said David Argentieri of Rockwell Crossing.

Performing with Rachel Drew is Tony Richards, a Chicago-based guitarist, writer and arranger. Richards, having been raised by opera singers, began teaching himself guitar at the age of 11. Early on, he listened to classical music, jazz and the pop music of the sixties and later on was influenced by progressive artists of the early seventies like Frank Zappa and Yes.

Richards writes and plays in a variety of styles with roots clearly based in jazz. His solo guitar repertoire includes the great composers: Thelonius Monk, Bill Evans, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Jerome Kern and Johnny Mandel, along with his original compositions.

Coffee, tea and dessert will be served. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 7pm. Tickets cost $20. Call 920.495.2928 for reservations. Lost Moth Gallery is located at the north end of Egg Harbor at 7975 Highway 42.
