Anderson Highlighted at Art League Gallery

The featured artist for the week of Aug. 23 at the Gallery of the Door County Art League, located in the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek, is artist Mary Blotti Anderson, who works in pastels, acrylics, watercolors, and jewelry wire.

Fish Creek artist Anderson enjoys painting Door County subjects as diverse as farm fields filled with hay bales and harbors filled with boats. She has been painting for 15 years and says that simply a beautiful day or scene inspires her. She also loves to paint plein air.

For Anderson’s farming series, she talked with farmers and did research and viewed slides that the Gibraltar Historical Society was showing from an early 20th century collection. She has been influenced by many local artists, including Emmett Johns and Bonnie Paruch, and has taken classes at both the Miller Art Museum and Peninsula School of Art. Anderson credits Carol Gresko Lyons and the late Charlie Lyons with nurturing her work.

The Gallery of the Door County Art League is open 10 am – 5 pm daily, and a reception is planned for the fourth Saturday of each month, 3 – 5 pm, this season.
