Annual Belgian Kermiss

The Belgian Heritage Center hosts its annual Belgian Kermiss Aug. 19, 11 am – 4 pm.

The popular variety band Mad Cats will provide their mix of country, rock and pop music from 12-3:30 pm. The afternoon features an antique farm implement display with a live demonstration and guided tours of the nearby Belgian American Clubhouse.

Area crafters have joined the festival again. Available products include home-grown garden produce, homemade jams, jelly, home decor items and more. The large bucket raffle provides an opportunity to win a variety of gifts all donated by local businesses and individuals. Highlights of the bucket raffle include many large themed baskets, multiple cash prizes, sporting tickets, winery tours, and handcrafted items, just to name a few.

The Belgian food served includes booyah, trippe, hamburgers, jutt, Belgian pie, tortes and old-fashioned ice cream. This year’s Kermiss will feature brews from two of the area’s craft breweries, Thumb Knuckle and Noble Roots. All proceeds will benefit the Belgian Heritage Center and its ongoing projects.

Visitors are invited to bring old family and community pictures for volunteers to scan and include in the organization’s collection. Genealogy assistance is  available for those interested in exploring their own Belgian heritage.

The Belgian Heritage Center is located at 1255 County Road DK in Brussels. For more information visit belgianheritagecenter.org.
