Four festive receptions will run concurrently Sept. 14, 3-8 pm, at Martinez Studio in Jacksonport, Idea Gallery in West Jacksonport, Cappaert Contemporary Gallery in Egg Harbor and Bazyli Studio in Baileys Harbor. The tour’s four galleries will celebrate the diversity of the county’s contemporary art scene by featuring the latest works of all of their represented artists.
Idea Gallery, 6551 Cty T in West Jacksonport, is in its third season of showcasing 50 visionary artists in all media, and it’s expanded outdoors with a sculpture garden and an annex gallery that hosts demonstrations and workshops.
Martinez Studio, 5877 Hwy 57 in Jacksonport, showcases contemporary, hand-spun wool tapestries based on Wence Martinez’s geometric patterns and the symbolist paintings of his spouse, Sandra. Their collaborative, national-award-winning artwork is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution, Museum of Wisconsin Art, National Museum of Mexican Art and Miller Art Museum.
Cappaert Contemporary Gallery, 7901 Hwy 42 in Egg Harbor, is now in its fifth season as the working studio and gallery of Ginnie Cappaert. She works in oil and cold wax, creating highly layered and textured minimalist landscape paintings, and her gallery represents 30 artists who work in sculpture, encaustic, painting, wood, ceramics and jewelry, many whom are nationally known.
Bazyli Studio Wearable Art, 2551 Ahrens Road in Baileys Harbor, is a destination gallery in a garden setting. Home to resident artists Peter Ciesla and Skye, it showcases Ciesla’s one-of-a-kind clothing designs created with natural linens, silks, wools and organic hemps and cottons, as well as the couple’s collaborative beaded-jewelry line.
