Annual Gills Rock Artfest Held Labor Day Weekend

A village of tents filled with fine arts, crafts and creative people at work will cover the grounds of Gills Rock Coffee, 12625 Hwy 42, on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, 10 am – 5 pm.

Twenty artists who work in collage, assemblage, oil, jewelry, encaustic, photography, mosaic and clay will show and sell their wares outdoors, with new participants Mary Steinberg and Carolyn Kane joining the group. Deb Rosen will offer readings in numerology and handwriting analysis; Kane will sign copies of her new book, A Rural Pen, and will have copies of her other works available. Joe Hernandez, assisted by Mary Nelson, will present raku pottery firing demonstrations, and Kate Nelson will staff the popcorn wagon – provided by Top o’ the Thumb Gallery and Gifts – to offer freshly popped popcorn during the afternoons. Miriam Friedman will play classical pieces, show tunes and jazz standards on her violin on Sunday.

Gills Rock Coffee will offer extended hours both days, 8 am – 5 pm, to serve specialty coffee drinks and made-from-scratch bakery. To learn more, call 920.854.9907.
