The Rotary Club of Sturgeon Bay presents the 22nd annual Sturgeon Bay Shipyard Tours on May 3, 9 am – 2 pm.
On one very special day, the community is invited to experience an insider’s view of the shipbuilding industry in Sturgeon Bay. For more than a century this industry has been integral to Door County’s maritime history and economy. The shipbuilders of Sturgeon Bay have designed, built and repaired vessels that have traveled to ports around the globe.
Palmer Johnson Yachts; Bay Shipbuilding; and CenterPointe Yacht Services LLC, all located on 1st Avenue, will open their doors to the public for this annual event. Start the tour at any one of these facilities. Guided walking tours are offered at Bay Shipbuilding and CenterPointe Yacht Services LLC, while self-guided walking tours are offered at Palmer Johnson Yachts. Coach bus transportation will be provided between sites.
Also on May 3, the United States Coast Guard will open their 140-foot USCG cutter Mobile Bay for free guided tours at the Graham Park dock from 9 am – 2 pm.
Tickets are available at all entry gates on the day of the event. Ticket prices are $12 per adult and $6 for students ages 11-17. Guests age ten and under are free. With purchase of a Shipyard Tour ticket, attendees are eligible to receive 50 percent off admission to the Door County Maritime Museum.
