Peshtigo 1, Sturgeon Bay 0

Brody Heroux’s sacrifice fly in the sixth inning scored the game’s only run and lifted Peshtigo to a 1-0 win over Sturgeon Bay in a Packerland Conference baseball matchup Monday.

Peshtigo’s Nick Nielson and Sturgeon Bay’s Trent Ehlers locked up in a classic pitchers battle. Nielson allowed only two hits and Ehlers gave up only one hit.

In the sixth inning, Brandon Eick’s infield hit moved Nielson from first base to third base. Heroux followed with his game winner. Both teams stranded three runners in scoring position in the first five innings.

Isaac Berkley and Ehlers each had a single for Clippers. The Bulldogs and the Clippers each have one conference loss.

Sturgeon Bay hosts Kewaunee in a Friday conference game, before traveling to Coleman for a Saturday non-conference game.

Gibraltar 3, Kewaunee 1

Trevor Reinhardt pitched a complete game and drove in two runs to lead Gibraltar to a 3-1 win over Kewaunee in Packerland Conference baseball action Monday.

Reinhardt scattered seven hits, struck out six, allowed an earned run and walked only two batters. Reinhardt’s two-run single in the third inning scored Alex Laughlin and Andras Szakala and gave the Vikings a 2-1 lead. Brandon Stillman added an RBI and Laughlin had two hits.

Wyatt Kruse pitched a complete game for Kewaunee. He allowed seven hits, struck out six and walked only one batter. Daniel Stangel had Kewaunee’s RBI.

Softball

Peshtigo 10, Sturgeon Bay 0

Grace Meyers tossed a no-hitter as Peshtigo blanked Sturgeon Bay 10-0 in a five-inning Packerland Conference softball game Monday.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings, then scored six runs in the fifth inning to put the game away.

Sturgeon Bay starting pitcher Sierra Arneman allowed only two hits in four innings. Erin Haese pitched the last inning and allowed two hits.

Southern Door 6, Oconto 5

Southern Door scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to knock off Oconto 6-5 in Packerland Conference softball action Monday.

Grace LeGrave provided the winning margin with a walk off single. LeGrave and Nicole Norton had three hits each, Jackie Atkins added two hits and two RBIs and Lexi Wery and Tehya Bertrand had two hits apiece.

Ellen Sohrweide’s grand slam in the sixth inning gave Oconto a 5-3 lead. The Eagles rallied for a run in the sixth and another in the seventh before LeGrave’s game winner.

LeGrave pitched three innings of relief to pick up the win. Wery pitched the first four innings, struck out five batters and allowed an earned run.

Soccer

Green Bay East 4, Sturgeon Bay 3

Ellena Gallegas’s goal in the 86th minute was the game winner in Green Bay East’s 4-3 win over Sturgeon Bay in a non conference girls soccer match which ended early due to lightning.

Immediately after Gallegas scored the field was cleared and the game was called. Gallegas finished with two goals and Anahi Cruz and Mantoya Valez each scored one.

Madison Starr scored a pair of goals for the Clippers and Anna Fischer added one. Goalkeeper Mckenna Gibson made five saves. Sturgeon Bay outshot East 18-11.

“We continued struggling in the final third of the field despite our three goals tonight,” Sturgeon Bay coach Bob Desotelle said. “We also had three balls off the frame, so while this was a winnable game, we remain frustrated with the outcome.”

The Clippers host Sturgeon Bay Thursday.
