The Door County Highway and Facilities Committee, made up of seven County Board Supervisors, is concerned there will not be stock-car racing at John Miles County Park’s Thunderhill Raceway in 2024. Upon September notice that the current operator would not be seeking a renewed contract to operate the track in the 2024 season, the county issued a Request for Proposals (RFP). No acceptable bids were received.
The committee fears that racing will come to a halt in Door County if no responses are received in the next round of requests that began in late October.
“I would like to see racing continue, but if no promoter wants to run the track, then racing may die in Door County,” said Dan Austad in a statement, a committee member and District 9 supervisor who represents wards within the city.
