Area Art Collectors “Show and Tell”

“Kangaroo Lake Perserve,” oil, by Brigitte Kozma, Collection of Peggy Sankey.

The Miller Art Museum’s 2013 exhibition schedule opens Feb. 2 with “Show and Tell,” an exploration of private art collecting. The extremely varied subject matter is the result of the generous loans of painting, sculpture, printmaking, pottery, and ethnographic materials from the homes of twenty area collectors.

Participating collectors were asked to talk about how their collections came about and their responses accompany the exhibited artwork.

Many of the lenders will be present at the opening reception on Feb. 2, 5 – 6:30 pm, where the public is invited to enjoy wine, appetizers and conversation.

Two public programs are scheduled during the exhibit’s run. On Feb. 14, collectors Julia Bresnahan, Gary Henger, Cheryl Stidwell Parker, and Hermke Timm form a panel to discuss collecting and their own collections. On March 14, Door County collectors Marilyn and Orren Bradley speak on the topic, “A Passion for Folk Art.” For these programs, the gallery opens at 10 am, and the program begins at 10:30 am.

This exhibit runs through April 16.

The museum is located at 107 S. 4th Ave., Sturgeon Bay, within the Door County Library. Museum hours are Monday 10 am – 8 pm, and Tuesday through Saturday 10 am – 5 pm.
