Art and Music Jam Features Jana Nyberg and Evan Montgomery

On Saturday, August 1 from 2 – 4 pm, Gallery 42 Art and Music Jam will feature two of Door County’s favorite summertime jazz musicians – Jana Nybert and Evan Montgomery – along with resident artist Tim Nyberg.

Jana Nyberg is known for her innovative jazz vocals and a voice that has been compared to a blend of Ella Fitzgerald and Bonnie Riatt with a touch of Billy Holiday for seasoning. Jana’s gathered a loyal following having performed with her jazz trio for the past three summers at Gordon Lodge in Baileys Harbor and at the Mission Grille in Sister Bay.

Jana will be joined at the gallery by the Jana Nyberg Group’s wonderfully gifted guitarist, Evan Montgomery. Evan is a recent graduate of Lawrence Music Conservatory and has just released his first CD, The Insufficiency of Rain.

Creating visual art is always the goal of the art and music jams. The Saturday, Aug. 1 jam is no exception. Gallery owner (and Jana’s dad) Tim Nyberg will be painting what he hears in the music. It’s not unusual for Tim to crank out three or four paintings in the two hour jam.

The audiences love the jams and always go away raving about the experience. They are often welcomed by the host to throw out challenges for the musicians – a word, a color, a mood – upon which the music and art is improvised.

Any purchases of original paintings made during the jam will be given a 20 percent discount and a portion of all painting sales always benefits Door County Habitat for Humanity. Admission is free as is the wine and iced tea that you are invited to sip while you watch the jam or browse the over 300 paintings on display.
