“Art of Music” Concert Series Opens With Jennie DeVoe

Jennie DeVoe performs in concert at the Door County Outpost Gallery & Café on Thursday, June 25 at 7:30 pm, kicking off the 2009 “Art of Music” Concert Series.

DeVoe draws a lot of comparisons to Janis Joplin, and indeed has the Joplin-esque throaty raspyness. Not content to be bound by the limits to genre, DeVoe has also been compared to blues rocker Alice Smith. DeVoe’s voice is resonant and solid; deliberate, not coy; controlled yet unpredictable. A music critic might say it has the texture and evenness of melted chocolate.
