Scarves – in many styles and made of varied fibers – have been worn since ancient times. In Door County, cool nights make scarves and shawls valuable wardrobe items.
Turtle Ridge Gallery (TurtleRidgeGallery.com) has long been a source of handmade scarves in pieced silk, dyed and felted merino wool, knitted and crocheted. This spring, Turtle Ridge is introducing its art scarves: large (28 inches by 76 inches), light enough to wrap up in and made of a silk-and-wool blend that feels great on the skin.
The designs are original paintings by Mary Ellen Sisulak. Colorful details peek out from the scarves while the whole scarves, when draped, are like paintings.
Turtle Ridge Gallery-Boutique is open Monday through Saturday, 11 am – 4 pm.
