For many artists, off-season in Door County means time to relax, take a much-needed vacation or enjoy longer days of uninterrupted work in their studios.

David J. Wagner, national authority on wildlife art, museum director/curator and former Door County resident, authored American Wildlife Art – the first comprehensive reference book on this subject – and will give a public presentation Aug. 19.

Jewelry artist Diana Allcox will be hosting a Trunk Showing of her current work as part of the “Artist, Friends and Family” series from 1 – 4 pm on August 9, in the Gardens of Blue Dolphin House and BDH Studio in Ephraim.

Traditionally, Turtle Ridge Studio-Gallery in Ellison Bay has been all about handbags and leather; however, this year, the studio-gallery has exploded with new ideas.

The 6th annual Summer Fine Art Fair will be held at the Settlement Shops in Fish Creek on August 2 from 10 am – 5 pm. Regional and local artists will sell their newest creations along the meandering path that surrounds the shops.

Elaine Coyne’s visionary artwear accessories, including complete collections of earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and belts, are on display at the Santa Fe Shop in Fish Creek.

Artist Beth Lipman came to Sturgeon Bay in early July to use the facility and team at Popelka Trenchard Glass where she has been creating a large installation that was commissioned by the Rhode Island School of Design Museum.

Rare, intricate textile treasures created by China’s ethnic minority tribes will be on display from August 7 through September 20 in the exhibit “Tribal Textiles of Southwest China” at Peninsula Art School’s Guenzel Gallery, 3900 County Road F in Fish Creek.

Pangaea Gallery is pleased to show and make available the unique and stunning jewelry of Kathy Stanaszek, who describes her art as fused dichroic glass jewels, based on the ancient art of glass that dates back to pre-Roman times.

Off the Wheel Pottery is currently showing a collection of oil paintings of Door County farmsteads by local artist, Shawn Peterson. A fourth generation Door County native, Peterson is influenced by the land and lifestyle.

Mr. Helsinki’s Restaurant and Wine Bar in Fish Creek will host a show of Tim Nyberg’s paintings August 7 through 31. The show promises to be an eclectic mix, as it’s comprised of works selected by Nyberg’s Door County and Twin Cities artist friends.

Newport House Gallery will host a container exhibit, demonstration, and idea exchange on July 31, 10 am – 4 pm, in the courtyard of the gallery in Ellison Bay.

Gold and Silver Creations, Door County’s premier jeweler located at 742 Jefferson St. in Sturgeon Bay, is hosting an exclusive artist showing August 1 and 2.

When you grow up in a small community such as Door County, inevitably you take a few things for granted. For me, one of those things was the vibrant arts and cultural community we have on the peninsula.

For over 30 years, Judi and Thor Thoreson have worked collaboratively, as artists, as husband and wife, and as active community participants. They reside in an historical building, participate with the Ellison Bay Arts Group, and offer a newly-completed brick oven, perfect for wood-fired pizzas, to the community once or more a month.

Judi Ekholm’s new 12 x 12 inch, full color book features 43 of her paintings. The public was provided a sneak preview of the book on July 19 at the opening of her exhibit at Edgewood Orchard Galleries, and the book will also be available, for $50, at the Ekholm Studio Gallery, located at 3913 Little Spring Road in Fish Creek.

Edgewood Orchard Galleries will be hosting two special events the weekend of July 25, 26 and 27. An Elizabeth Garvin Trunk Show featuring her contemporary jewelry designs in silver and gold will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am – 5 pm, while Illinois limestone carver Jim Johnson will be presenting a stone carving demonstration on Saturday from noon – 5 pm.

Everyone is welcome to the 20th annual “A Fair at Domicile’ on Friday and Saturday, August 1 and 2, in Sister Bay. The work of several Wisconsin artisans, making their only Door County appearance this year, will be displayed in the orchard surrounding Domicile.

Celebrating their 41st summer season, Blue Dolphin House and BDH Studio have come to realize the influence that an artists friends and family can have on their artwork.
