Art School Opens ‘To The Letter’, Hosted Gingerbread Bash

Peninsula School of Art (PSA) is hosting its next exhibition, To the Letter: Text in Art, Dec. 4 – Jan. 29, featuring the works of seven regionally and nationally recognized artists: Alison A. Gates and Melissa Wagner-Lawler of Wisconsin, Sean Latif Heiser of Tennessee, Meg Hitchcock and Leslie Roberts of New York, Nicki Shockz of Illinois, and Chris Walla of Minnesota.

Gates, Shockz and curator Crystal Chesnik, PSA’s director of public programs and exhibitions, will present a gallery talk during the free opening reception Dec. 3, 4-6 pm.

To the Letter examines the varied ways in which artists blend text and image to create interactions and suggest new meanings through sculpture, book art, illuminated manuscripts, abstract paintings that merge digital with handmade, and more.

PSA also hosted a Gingerbread Bash on Nov. 17, when participants created their best gingerbread structure with the materials provided, and awards were bestowed in multiple categories, including People’s Choice.

Congratulations to team Just Kidding Around – made of Aleah and Brody Kidd – on their winning entry: a re-creation of Washington Island’s popular Stavkirke.
