Artisan Art Crawl, Summer Cherry Harvest and More Weekend Plans

Midsummer is here in Door County. If you haven’t started hitting the beaches on the bay side, now may be the time to start. To complement your weekend fun in the sun, here’s a list of this weekend’s top festivals and attractions.

Friday, July 21

Birch Creek Jazz 1 Concert Series

Birch Creek Music Performance Center has a long history of educating young musicians and of being an epicenter for classical and jazz music in Door County. Featuring tunes by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Ron Miller, Birch Creek will surely deliver. Pre-show music begins at 7 pm in the gazebo; show begins at 7:30 pm.

Lily Bay Lakeshore Artisan Art Crawl

This half mile of Lake Michigan Drive in Sturgeon Bay is peppered with artisan’s work spaces. Running 10 am – 5 pm Friday – Sunday, take the opportunity to see what and how the artisans make what they make.

Washington Island International Food Festival

Sponsored by the Washington Island Women’s Club, this two-hour lunch event features samples from a range of ethnic cuisines, including a large Scandinavian offering. Stop by the Washington Island Community Center 11 am – 1 pm this Friday.

Saturday, July 22

WPR Old Time Radio Drama Live @ DCA

The Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek is putting on a live adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s “The Canterville Ghost,” as part of the centennial celebration for Wisconsin Public Radio. Performed by the 9XM players, this event features period costumes and family-friendly comedy and will be broadcast statewide. The performance begins at 8pm.

Summer Harvest Fest

Lautenbach’s Orchard Country Winery & Market in Fish Creek hosts this fun day in the orchards, with orchard tours, food tastings, and the famous Cherry Pit Spit competition. The fest runs 10 am – 5 pm.

Antique Tractor Show/Arts & Crafts Fair

Running all weekend is the Liberty Grove Historical Society’s fair showcasing farm equipment through the ages. Accompanying the tractor show will be delicious food, hay rides, and an Arts & Crafts fair. Located at the Liberty Grove Historical Society’s museum site in Ellison Bay, the fest runs from 10 am – 5 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday, July 23

Plein Air Festival Begins With Meet-and-Greet Dinner

The Midwest’s largest outdoor painting festival starts Sunday with a dinner and meet-and-greet at the Peninsula School of Art. Attendees of the dinner will welcome the featured artists for the week as they prepare to spread across the county to capture the beauty of Door County in midsummer. Activities and events will take place every day this week. The dinner party runs from 5:30 – 8 pm and features Italian wines, Mediterranean cuisine, and live music.

Taj Weekes & Adowa Play Peg Egan PAC

Join Taj and his band as they blend reggae, roots, and afro-folk at Egg Harbor’s free sunset concert series. Internationally renowned, the group uses their music to further a mission of humanitarianism. Concert starts at 7pm.
