Artists Guild Hosts Craig Blietz Workshop and Drawing Classes

Painting by Craig Blietz.

Registration is open for an upcoming one-day workshop taught by Door County artist Craig Blietz at Artists Guild in Sturgeon Bay. Students will paint from a still life with the objective to exercise and hone their compositional and design decision-making skills in “Painting & the Art of Visual Selection,” on Oct. 20, 8 am – 4 pm.

While students paint the instructor will balance his time between offering a working demonstration and providing personalized critiques for each student. Blietz will also share visual strategies and tactics through PowerPoint presentations.

Students of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. Enrollment is limited to 10 students. The cost of the workshop is $125 per participant.

Registration is also open for “Considerations in Drawing the Human Figure,” a drawing class also taught by Blietz. The four-session class meets on Tuesday evenings, 6 – 9 pm, beginning Oct. 23 and ending Nov. 13.

Students will hone their draftsmanship skills by drawing from a live model. The instructor will introduce topics pertaining to effective and expressive figure drawing such as anatomy, structure, gesture, technique, proportion and figure design.

Enrollment is limited to 12 students. Beginner and professional artists are encouraged to register.

Blietz is a noted artist and instructor whose work is exhibited at galleries nationwide and locally at Edgewood Orchard Galleries in Fish Creek. His subject matter ranges from landscape to still life, portrait and figure.

Artists Guild studio is located at 215 N. 3rd Avenue. Prompt registration is advised. Students will bring their own supplies in the medium of their choice, but easels, tables and chairs are provided.
