Artists Receive Awards at Miller Art Museum’s Juried Annual

The Miller Art Museum announced the eight artists who received awards in conjunction with the organization’s 41st Juried Annual exhibition. The awards were presented at a free public opening reception on Nov. 5 at the museum in Sturgeon Bay.

Welcome remarks were presented by Executive Director Elizabeth Meissner-Gigstead and Curator of Exhibits and Collections Deborah Rosenthal handed out the awards honoring both established and emerging artists.

In total, $1,175 was presented to the winners who were chosen from a group of 48 local and regional artists. Award winners are:

  • Gerhard Miller Award of Excellence: “Call Him Jack” by Thomas Jordan
  • Bonnie Hartmann Award for Outstanding Creativity: “Neighbors” by Lynn Gilchrist

Pirman said, “There was such a strong range of work which demonstrated professional use of color, composition, different mediums and many highly technical solutions.”

The public is invited to hear more from the jurors in a panel discussion on Dec. 8 at 10:30 am in the main gallery of the museum – the last of this year’s Second Thursday Program Series.

This exhibition continues through Dec. 29 and features 53 works. This year’s three-member jury panel was comprised of artist Marcia Boyd of Egg Harbor; Kendra Bulgrin of Algoma, director of the James May Gallery and Adjunct Assistant Professor of art at St. Norbert College; and Brian Pirman of De Pere, Associate Professor of Art, St. Norbert College.
