Astonishing Musical Wizardry

Last time Béla Fleck played in Door County it was 1995. He played at the Door Community Auditorium with the Flecktones. This summer he returns with a couple of different musicians by his side. Bela Fleck plays banjo, Zakir Hussain, the Indian tabla drums, and Edgar Meyer plays string bass in a show billed as, “Astonishing Musical Wizardry.”

Fleck remembers his last visit to the county. He says in an email, “I do remember playing there and enjoying the place. One benefit of my job is that I get to travel to places that are on the edges. I like that aspect, kind of like dropping into different little worlds…”

Additionally, Fleck remembers a warm response from his Door County audience.

Fleck says, “When you travel so far to play in a region, the audiences are usually not jaded and give a lot.”

When asked what he is looking forward to this time around, he says, “I am performing with two of the most unique and powerful instrumentalists in the world. They have redefined their instruments, and play with a lot of heart, virtuosity and complexity. This sort of thing doesn’t come around often, in any location…I love the new music we are doing, and I am looking forward to bringing it to the people!”

Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer and Zakir Hussain play at the DCA at 8 pm on June 29. Tickets range from $55/$45/$38. For more information, visit http://www.dcauditorium.org or call 920.868.2728.
