Door Shakespeare is holding auditions for its youth production of Something’s Rotten in the State of Denmark by William Shakespeare and Joseph Wallace.
Auditions for actors who are eight to 17 years old will take place in the Peninsula meeting room of the Door County Community Foundation, 222 N. 3rd Ave. in Sturgeon Bay, on Nov. 5, 3:30-5:30 pm; and Nov. 7, 6-8 pm. Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script and should take their contact information and schedules. Rehearsals will begin the week after the auditions; the play will be performed Dec. 13, 14 and 15 at Björklunden’s Vail Hall.
The play follows the young actor Tom, who – exhausted from playing the role of Hamlet – closes his eyes for a moment and opens the audience’s eyes to a dreamed-up version of the Bard’s masterpiece: Uncle Claudius can’t seem to remember anyone’s name, and the ghost of Hamlet’s father exhibits multiple personalities reminiscent of other famous literary phantoms.
This is Door Shakespeare’s first youth production, which is building on its popular summer youth theater program, Camp Will.
