Alyssa Skiba

Arts, Entertainment & Literature Editor

Arts, Entertainment & Literature Editor Alyssa Skiba lives for unique experiences, whether that means jumping out of a perfectly good airplane at 14,500 feet altitude or sliding face-first down a 250-foot ketchup slide during Burger Fest in her hometown of Seymour, Wisconsin. So when the opportunity to live and work in a county where arts, entertainment and the great outdoors are a regular part of daily life, she jumped on it. Alyssa first came to the peninsula for a hiking trip in 2009 while in school at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater earning her journalism degree. “I remember the first time I came up here, looking out the window and not even believing a place like this existed,” Alyssa said. “And wondering how I went so long without knowing about it.” Joining the Peninsula Pulse in 2014, she was vaulted into a corner of the county’s culture that changed the way she wrote and the way she lived. “The thing that surprised me the most is that being the Arts, Entertainment & Lit Editor isn’t just a job, it’s a lifestyle,” Alyssa said. “When you write about things that people are interested in, whether it is theater, art, literature or music, you have to engage yourself in it. It is the only way to really understand the passion behind it. That has been the most exciting and rewarding part of my time here.” Out of the office, Alyssa can be found making soy wax candles for her online business, studying astrology, watching sunsets, building her beginner’s vinyl collection, perfecting the art of growing houseplants, or pedaling the roads and trails of Peninsula State Park on her bike. Fun Fact About Alyssa: She was born the seventh of 10 children to her parents.
