Award Given for Natural Landscaping

At its annual meeting on November 1 the Door County Chapter of Wild Ones gave the annual award for exemplary business landscaping to The Main Street Market of Egg Harbor. The store made a commitment to remove its existing landscape and replace it with native landscaping. Over a three-year period, the south side of the property has been replanted with woodland and praire plantings, and is designated as a Monarch Waystation. The result provides visual interest and beauty while requiring minimal maintenance and watering. Informational signs are posted in the planting areas and a catalog listing of all the plant species is in the store.

“Wild Ones: Native Plants, Natural Landscapes” promotes environmentally sound landscaping practices to preserve biodiversity through the preservation, restoration and establishment of native plant communities. Wild Ones is a national not-for-profit environmental education and advocacy organization. More information is available at http://www.for-wild.org.
