Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) announces a benefit performance of John Logan’s Red at the year-round professional theater in downtown Sturgeon Bay. On June 29 a portion of ticket sales will go to the Miller Art Museum, a nonprofit cultural arts institution open all year to provide a variety of arts opportunities to thousands of children and adults.

In Red, master abstract expressionist Mark Rothko has just landed the biggest commission in the history of modern art, a series of murals for New York’s famed Four Seasons Restaurant. In the two fascinating years that follow, Rothko works feverishly with his young assistant, Ken, in his studio on the Bowery. But when Ken gains the confidence to challenge him, Rothko faces the agonizing possibility that his crowning achievement could also become his undoing.

Raw and provocative, Red is a searing portrait of an artist’s ambition and vulnerability as he tries to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting. Winner of six Tony Awards, this sizzling 90-minute drama is one of the most intellectually riveting shows to hit Broadway and features Drew Brhel and Matt Frye.

Performances are at 7:30 pm Wednesday through Saturday, 2 pm on Sunday with a pay-what-you-can preview on June 28 at 7:30 pm.

Purchase tickets by calling 920.743.1760 or visiting the TAP daytime box office at 234 N. Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. For more information visit thirdavenueplayhouse.com.
