Back-to-School Fair Donation

On Jan. 12, FirstMerit Foundation awarded a $1,000 grant to Altrusa Club of Door County, to be used for the annual Back-to-School Fair program. Rick Hearden, senior vice president and manager of commercial banking, and Kay VanBoxel, branch manager of the Sturgeon Bay FirstMerit Bank, presented the check to Altrusa President Anita Karwowski. This grant, applied for by Altrusan Cheri Meyvis, will be used for school supplies, backpacks and gym shoes for disadvantaged Door County children returning to school in September. FirstMerit Foundation’s goal of supporting low-income children in the community pairs well with Altrusa’s goals of service to enhance literacy in our locale.
