Baileys Harbor awarded Scenic Byway grant

• Two Door County communities were awarded Scenic Byway grants from the Federal Highway Administration worth a total of $355,000.

The Town of Baileys Harbor received $216,800 for enhancements to public access at Anclam Park. The park is a popular beach and water sports destination.

The Door County Coastal Byway committee was awarded $138,200 to develop a master comprehensive plan for coordinating and telling the story of the Door County Coastal Byway.

“The plan will be a basis to guide participant communities and partners in preserving, protecting and conveying our story through strategic placement of information kiosks along the byway route,” Byway Chairman Annie Miller said in announcing the awards.

• The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) is working to implement improvements to the property assessment process. By 2013 the DOR will require that assessors follow the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, and assessors will be required to store and maintain assessment data electronically.

The changes are aimed at improving transparency, consistency and fairness of the local assessment process for property owners and governments.
