Baileys Harbor to Consider Short-term Rental Ordinance

The Town of Baileys Harbor will consider a new ordinance to regulate short-term rentals during its Aug. 10 meeting. The ordinance largely mirrors a similar measure enacted in the Village of Egg Harbor that requires those who operate short-term rental homes to obtain an annual rental license.

The license would require that the owner or operator reside within 75 miles of the rental when it is rented, or list a registered agent within 25 miles who would be responsible for responding to complaints or emergencies affiliated with the rental. It would also require short-term rentals to hold a Tourist Rooming House License from the state, abide by state occupancy codes and maintain homeowner’s or business liability insurance.
