Baileys Harbor Town Board Race Clarified

The Pulse decided not to run profiles on candidates for Baileys Harbor Town Board in our March 20 Election Preview Issue when one candidate, incumbent supervisor Dale Williams, informed us he resigned from the board. Williams said he did so to bid on a town project, as mandated by state statute. Williams won the bid to do sewer work on Ward Road worth $31,000.

Williams’ resignation left two candidates for two supervisor positions.

But because it was too late for Williams’ name to be taken off the ballot, he can still win one of the seats. The other candidates are incumbent Supervisor Peter Jacobs and challenger Don Sitte. Should Williams finish as one of the top two vote-getters, he can assume office as long as his work for the town is completed and he has been paid before taking the oath of office.

If Williams wins, but the job he was awarded is not completed within five days of the election, the seat would be vacated. The town board and clerk would then decide whom to appoint to the seat.

Town chairman Jim Parent said if it came to a town appointment, it would likely choose the top eligible vote-getter from the April 7 election for the post.
