The Baileys Harbor Planning Commission is working on a short-term-rental (STR) ordinance that it could submit to the town board for consideration during its Oct. 10 meeting.
The ordinance is similar to others passed in Door County, with its purpose being to establish safety and maintenance standards, determine owners’ responsibilities and allow for rule enforcement.
The ordinance would require people operating an STR for more than 14 days a year to get a license from the town, with a $500 initial application fee and a $250 yearly renewal fee.
It would also ensure proper wastewater treatment, set occupancy limits, regulate quiet hours and require a drive-in garbage service, among other rules.
Town attorney Tyler Pluff will examine the draft before it goes to the town board.
