Barbara Harman & Book Arts at the FHCA

Barbara Harman

The Francis Hardy Center for the Arts (FHCA) in downtown Ephraim is pleased to welcome Minneapolis-based artist Barbara Harman who will conduct two workshops in bookmaking at the Ephraim Village Hall in early March. For anyone who wants to expand his or her range or is looking to have fun with their creativity, Barbara Harman’s two book arts workshops will be an adventure into the infinite possibilities.

Harman has been creating one-of-a-kind and editioned artist books since 1983. Her unique artist books include original text, painting, prints and innovative structural designs. Among her unique books is the dimensional book, revealing hidden secrets one layer at a time, going in and out and back and forth in space. Harman will demonstrate methods for three differently constructed dimensional tunnel books in the two-day “Dimensional Books: Tunnels and Stars” workshop on March 17 and 18. The two-day workshop runs from 10 am – 4 pm both days at the Ephraim Village Hall. The fee for this workshop is $175 plus $25 for materials.

Harman’s second one-day workshop titled “How Many Books Can You Make in One Day” will take place on Thursday, March 20 from 10 am – 4 pm, also at the Ephraim Village Hall. This workshop is guaranteed to change the way we define a “book.” Beginning with basic instructions on how to fold an accordion, participants will progress through structures that gradually increase in complexity. Because all books have some interchangeable parts, participants will come away with possibilities to create many more books, plus the necessary skills to make them. The fee for this workshop is $100 plus $25 for materials.

Registration is required for both workshops. Reserve your space today by calling the FHCA at 920.854.2210. Space is limited so anyone interested is encouraged to book his or her space early.
