Base Camp Hosts Pastel Painting Auction

“Afternoon in Bloom” by Kay McKinley Arneson.

An ongoing silent auction of original pastel paintings and gicleé prints by Door County artist Kay McKinley Arneson opens at Base Camp Coffee Bar on April 18. The auction coincides with the re-opening of the café for the season. Arneson will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from the sale of her works to the Newport Wilderness Society (NWS), a nonprofit, educational organization serving Newport State Park as its official friends group.

Arneson’s paintings range from whimsical figurative works to interpretations of Door County’s natural beauty – all executed in colorful, confident strokes. A resident of Ellison Bay, the exhibit celebrates Arneson’s art and her appreciation for her neighboring state park.

Low minimum bids will be placed on the paintings, with gicleé prints priced at $25 and $35 each. A free, public event will be held at Base Camp on May 17, 6 – 8 pm, to close the auction. Refreshments will be served.

Base Camp Coffee Bar, located below Ecology Sports at 10904 Highway 42 in Sister Bay, is open daily at 7:30 am.
