Base Camp Coffee Bar will host an exhibition of pastels and acrylics by Sandra Place. The exhibit, titled Italy: Journeys and Inspirations, will be up from June 15 to Aug. 15. An opening reception will be held June 17, 4 – 6 pm. Fifteen percent of the artist’s proceeds from painting sales will benefit Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).
Place, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and summer resident of Egg Harbor, will present an exhibit of pastel and acrylic paintings inspired by her recent travels in Italy.
Place has travelled several times in northern Italy in recent years. On her visits, she spent her days hiking and exploring the natural environment, beautiful cities, art museums, delicious food and culture of this marvelous and timeless country. Favorite places, some of which inspired the paintings in this exhibit, include the Cinque Terre, Lake Como, the Dolomites, Venice, Bologna, Florence, and numerous small towns and countrysides. Along the way, she photographed, sketched and painted, gathering reference material for the paintings she would do after her return.
Place received a B.A. in French from Northwestern University, pursued a career in travel in Chicago, and later studied art full-time for two years at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. She is a juried Signature Member of Artists for Conservation, with a membership of 500 artists from 27 countries.
She is represented locally at The Paint Box Gallery in Ephraim, and Clay Bay Pottery in Ellison Bay. Base Camp is located at 10904 Highway 42 in Sister Bay.
