Baseball Eagles Shut Out Blazers in Twin Bill

Southern Door’s baseball team recorded a pair of five-inning shutouts on Saturday when the Eagles swept the Packerland Conference doubleheader it hosted against NEW Lutheran.

Game one was scoreless until the third inning when Southern Door scored four runs and added seven runs in the bottom of the fourth en route to defeating the Blazers, 11-0.

Tyler Neinas led the Eagles at the plate with two doubles, while Braylon Berg, Blake Guilette, and Cole Rass each drove in two runs.

A leadoff double in the top of the first by Griffin Steffel turned out to be the Blazers’ only hit off Will Jandrin, who struck out eight with no walks in his complete-game victory.

In the second game, the Eagles scored five runs in both the third and fourth inning on the way to winning 17-0.

Neinas and Gaige Geisel led Southern Door with two hits apiece, with Berg, Neinas and Jandrin each driving in three runs and Mason Paye adding 2 RBI.

Southern Door had three pitchers share in the shutout. Neinas worked the first two innings, Jack Jeanquart tossed the third and fourth innings, while Guilette pitched the fifth and final inning.

Once again, the Blazers were held to a single hit, a second-inning single by Evan Monfre.

Southern Door, which improved to 8-6 in the Packerland and 9-7 overall, closes out the regular season this week with a league doubleheader Friday at Sevastopol starting at 5 pm, followed by a non-conference home game Saturday against St. Mary’s Catholic beginning at 10 am.
