Baskery Opens “Celebrate Community” Concert Series

Ministry Door County Medical Center’s “Celebrate Community” free concert series begins July 7. Thursday evening concerts take place at 7 pm in a relaxed atmosphere in the hospital’s Green Space on 16th Place, right next to The Community’s Garden.

Baskery, a trio of Swedish sisters, will kick off the series with their alternative-Americana-folk-rock music. Baskery’s music is not to be confused with country or bluegrass just because the instrumentation involves a double bass, a six-string banjo and acoustic guitar. The trio is not bound to any genre.

In their late teens, the sisters joined forces with their dad, who had been a one-man band as long as the girls can recall it, playing old blues and country tunes for a living. They were introduced to the music business by playing cover songs in pubs. A foundation of classic roots music and Americana settled in their hearts, and awoke the urge of breaking the rules of traditional music.

Baskery is all about turning the music on its head, blending the straightforwardness of punk with the subtlety of singer/songwriting.

“Music contributes to people’s emotional, physical and spiritual well-being,” says Kevin Grohskopf of Ministry. “We’re so pleased to be able to offer our community the opportunity to enjoy music in a beautiful outdoor setting.”

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner as well as chairs or blankets. For more information call 920.493.5979.
