Bay Art Gallery Features New Artist

“Dancing Mum’s” by Barbara Schilling

Bay Art Gallery will show the work of their new artist Barbara Schilling this month. Schilling is a West Michigan impressionist painter who has also been a Conservator in Art Restoration for over 30 years. Her own work demonstrates boldness and a confidence that has been influenced by her many years of working with and closely observing other artists work. Perhaps because her Restoration skills require a very disciplined hand, her paintings conversely seem loose and carefree, a wild play of texture and color. Her subjects illustrate her love for flowers and the beauty of nature. She captures that beauty with an energy and vibrancy that bring the painted objects to life. Barbara has studied under OPA signature artist Kenneth Cadwallader, as well as taking her influences from many of the exceptional contemporary artists out there today, including Quang Ho, Daniel James Keys, Laura Robb and Patricia Moran. Her work has been published in The Best of Michigan Artists and she has received honors and awards in many juried shows and competitions. On the national scene, Barbara has been accepted to such prestigious events as The Jack Richeson Still life Exhibit, OPA Regional Exhibit, NOAPS Still life Exhibit, the OPA National Salon Exhibit, OPA Regional Competition and others. Bay Art Gallery is located at Sister Bay Trading Co., 2477 Hwy. 42 in Sister Bay. The gallery is open daily 10 am – 5 pm, and 11 am – 4 pm on Sunday. For more information call 920.854.2554.
