The Bay Lofts Hosts Groundbreaking

Madison-based multifamily housing developer The Bay Lofts, LLC is hosting a groundbreaking for its new project, The Bay Lofts, at 49 North Madison Ave., Sturgeon Bay, on June 24 at 1 pm. Sturgeon Bay Mayor Thad Birmingham and Fifth District Alderperson Jerry Stultz will make brief remarks. A reception will be held at Sonny’s Pizzeria following the event.

The development will be the first in the city’s Westside Redevelopment area. Its 35 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom, market-rate apartments will feature in-building parking, a community room, fitness center, business center, bicycle storage, building community rooftop terrace and top floor community outdoor lounge. The development also includes 2,350 square feet of available commercial space along Madison Avenue. The development is supported in part with tax incremental financing provided by the City of Sturgeon Bay.

Sturgeon Bay City Administrator Josh Van Lieshout said, “Our team at the city is thrilled to see this development come to fruition just steps from the waterfront. This development – well received by our community – will kick off what we expect to be an exciting effort and chapter in Sturgeon Bay’s history. We’re looking forward to making downtown Sturgeon Bay a truly special place to live, work and play.”

Door County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Bill Chaudoir said, “This project is the start of something that our employers have been asking for. We are hopeful that it, and subsequent new development in the area, will help with our employers’ workforce recruitment and retention efforts.”

The Bay Lofts is a $7.7 million development. The developer anticipates pre-leasing in mid-fall 2016 and residences will be available in late spring 2017.
