Bayview Bridge Work Pushed to 2013

• The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that work on Sturgeon Bay’s Bayview Bridge, originally scheduled for 2012, has been rescheduled to early spring 2013.

The bridge is scheduled for a new deck, approaches and electrical upgrades, including the ability for remote operations. It will be completely closed to vehicle traffic during these repairs. Bridge traffic will be detoured through the city of Sturgeon Bay.

“By delaying the bridge work a year, we have an opportunity to combine two projects, lessening the total traffic impact to Door County,” said DOT regional director Will Dorsey.

• Wisconsin 1st Senate District representative Frank Lasee (R – De Pere) will run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Herb Kohl, who announced his retirement earlier this year. Lasee was elected to the state Senate last November, and previously served seven terms in the state assembly. Former Congressman Mark Neumann and Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald have also entered the Republican field. Former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson is rumored to be close to announcing his candidacy.

Democratic State Senator Tammy Baldwin is the only democrat who has announced her intention to run.
