Beach of the Week: Egg Harbor Beach

If last week’s featured beach, Sand Bay Beach, is an example of a hidden treasure, then Egg Harbor Beach is an example of an idyllic spot that’s been right under your nose all along.

Located within easy walking distance of downtown Egg Harbor, Egg Harbor Beach is the perfect spot to soak up the sun on 500 feet of waterfront before taking a cooling dip in the calm waters of the harbor.

And the beach’s appeal doesn’t fade when the sun goes down. The brilliantly colored sunsets that paint the sky and light up the water each evening are best viewed from the beach.

Egg Harbor Beach isn’t just for loungers – although there’s certainly no shame in a little R&R! Kayak rentals are available, and a convenient hand boat launch is located nearby. In addition, the beach has amenities such as restrooms, expanded parking, a grassy area, a playground and an accessible, paved pathway that leads from the parking lot all the way down to the sand.

A lot of work has gone into making the beach as beautiful as it is today. In 2007, the village purchased the adjacent property in order to extend the beach from 350 feet to its current length. Projects in 2008 and 2009 expanded the playground and park space, extended pathways, removed overgrowth and completed a water-runoff project.

And as of this week, the most recent amenities and expansion has been completed which includes ADA accessibility to the water’s edge, a recessed beach area that’s usable even with extreme high-water levels, and added stone revetments as seating.
