Sturgeon Bay beadwork artist Mary Lou Allen’s neckpiece “Sunflowers II” was awarded first place in the crystal jewelry category at the June 2014 Bead & Button BeadDreams international juried competition. Entries were judged on overall presentation, creativity and technical execution.

Allen has been a finalist in the annual challenge for 13 years and placed several times in the crystal and seed bead categories. Well known for her structural and experimental design pieces, she has had her work shown in regional, national and international juried shows and exhibitions including in Japan and Germany.
