Become a Door County Naturalist

There are still a few openings for interested individuals to become a Door County Wisconsin Naturalist in this fall’s Wisconsin Naturalist class, which will begin September 9. Any adult who is interested in Door County’s environment and natural resources is invited to take part in the program, coordinated by The Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor.

Wisconsin Naturalists participate in 25 hours of classroom training and 10 hours of fieldwork, studying geology, plant communities, ecosystems, and land management. After completing their training, participants commit to volunteering their time and expertise to area natural resource organizations in a variety of roles. Advanced training classes are also offered to those who have completed the initial program.

The 2010 Wisconsin Naturalists Program will be held at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay. Classroom sessions are from 6 – 8:30 pm on Thursdays from September 9 through November 11. The cost is $150 and covers all classroom and field trip sessions, handouts, and other resources. For more information call Karen Newbern, Ridges Naturalist, at 920.839.2802.
