Becoming a Better Writer

Write On, Door County offers many opportunities for writers of all ages and levels of experience to exercise their creative muscles in August. Whether you have a novel in mind, would like to start a memoir, or just want to learn more about being a better writer, there is something for you.

On Aug. 7, 9 am – 4 pm, Write On will partner with Door County Land Trust for a special hike of Oak Road Nature Preserve, followed by a catered lunch and writing workshop with author John Hildebrand. Participants will flesh out notes made during their hike by discussing different perspectives and shaping a story in which land isn’t just a backdrop but a main character. Hildebrand is the author of numerous books of nonfiction, including A Northern Front and Mapping the Farm: The Chronicle of a Family. Tuition is $75, which includes lunch. Class is limited to 12 participants.

On Aug. 9, 10:30 am – noon, Write On and the Door County Humane Society invite writers ages 5 – 10 to tour the Humane Society and to create biographies for the cats and dogs who live there. Volunteers will help children write and illustrate their stories. Bring a can of dog or cat food or a $1 donation. Class is limited to 20 people. To register, call 920.746.1111 or email [email protected].
