Behind the Pages of Peninsula Players’ “Panic”

An old saying goes, “behind every great man stands a great woman.” Panic, a new thriller by Joseph Goodrich, now on stage at Peninsula Players, embraces this concept. Goodrich has used film director Alfred Hitchcock as inspiration for his character Henry Lockwood, “the Sultan of Suspense,” who finds himself embroiled in blackmail, betrayal, and murder.

Henry and Emma Lockwood’s working relationship in the play was inspired by the working relationship Hitchcock had with his wife, Alma Hitchcock, who professionally was known as Alma Reville.

Hitchcock and Reville met when they worked together on Always Tell Your Wife. The couple married in 1926 and had one daughter, Patricia, in 1928. Reville died two years after Hitchcock in 1982.

Panic is on stage through October 17. Curtain times are Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 7pm., except for 4 pm Sunday matinees on September 26 and October 17. Group and individual tickets are available. Individual ticket prices range from $29 to $36; there are no performances on Mondays.
