Beyond Comfort: The Fine Art of Quilting

“Collaborative Play” by Julie Fielder.

The Trillium Quilt Guild of Sister Bay will exhibit members’ works at the UU Gallery in Ephraim from January 12 to February 25.

“Although we think of quilts as a means of staying warm during these cold winter months, the Beyond Comfort exhibition features approximately 15 quilts that ‘warm’ the imagination and provide aesthetic comfort more than physical comfort,” explains Trillium Exhibit chair Kaye Wagner.

The quilts vary greatly in style, technique and combinations of techniques. Of particular interest is a quilt titled “Take a Bow” by Fran Burton; the quilt depicts five ladies, seen from behind, as if on stage ready to bow to an audience.

Another sample of the quilted artworks included in the exhibition is Laurie Moegenburg’s “My Little House in the Woods.” The quilt is a whimsical portrait of a fairytale home. It combines fused fabric with hand embroidery and decorative quilting.

Over the past 15 years, quilts by the Trillium Guild members have been exhibited at The Hardy Gallery, Link Gallery, Corner of the Past Museum and at The Meadows of Scandia Village.

The UU Gallery, located at 10341 Highway 42 in north Ephraim, is open 1 – 3 pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 11 am – 12:30 pm Sunday. The gallery is also open by appointment. For more information call 920.854.7996.
