Nature – as represented by many Door County artists – will be up for bid during a silent auction at the Door County Land Trust’s annual gathering Aug. 25, 2-5 pm, at the Belgian Heritage Center, 1255 Cty DK in Brussels.
The donated works of art range from paintings to photography. Landscapes painted in pastel, oil and acrylic by Liz Maltman, Rob Williams, Rick Risch, Mac Schueppert and Dan Collins will be on display for bidding. The nature theme continues with stoneware pieces by Larry “Thor” Thoreson of Gills Rock Stoneware and Thomas Skupniewitz, represented by Edgewood Orchard Galleries.
Bidding is also available for handmade serving pieces made of Chambers Island beechwood by Russ Feirer and a 16-inch-by-24-inch photographic print on aluminum by photographer David Heilman. The auction contribution of Baileys Harbor clothing designer Peter Ciesla enables the highest bidder to collaborate on a custom-designed vest made from recycled denim.
The auction is just one part of the event’s festivities, which include live music with a French jazz influence by the Caravan Gypsy Swing Ensemble, buffets of hors d’oeuvres and desserts, tours and a talk by the Land Trust’s executive director, Emily Wood, who will discuss recent land acquisitions and partnerships with Southern Door landowners.
The annual gathering is open to the public. Purchase tickets ($45 per adult and $25 per child) at DoorCountyLandTrust.org/gathering until Aug. 16.
