‘Big Bundle Up’ Campaign Has Record-Breaking Year in Wisconsin

The 7th annual “Big Bundle Up” campaign that concluded earlier this month topped previous years with 1,303 winter clothing items donated. The campaign was led by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism and organized locally by the Door County Visitor Bureau. The Door County Visitor Bureau Welcome Center along with visitor centers in Baileys Harbor, Carlsville, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Jacksonport, Sister Bay and Sturgeon Bay all volunteered to participate in the campaign. Community members were encouraged to drop off new or gently used cold weather clothing items from Nov. 17 to Jan. 2 at any of the drop off sites. Collected items were donated to 12 local organizations. The Wisconsin Department of Tourism reported that it was a record-breaking year in the state as well, with 31,697 winter clothing items collected at Wisconsin Welcome Centers and tourist information centers around Wisconsin. Since 2011 the campaign has donated 103,400 items to Wisconsin residents in need. “We couldn’t have received 1,303 winter clothing items without the caring people of Door County,” said Jen Rogers, communications and public relations manager at the Door County Visitor Bureau, who helped organize this year’s collection in Door County. “So many great organizations benefited from items this year, and in the past six years we have donated more than 4,200 winter clothing items to Door County residents in need,” she said.
