May 1 will be a special day at Crossroads at Big Creek (crossroadsatbigcreek.org): the first of three Big Plant Days. Through its Habitat Healers volunteer program, Crossroads is one of 18 organizations participating in the Door County Big Plant tree-planting effort, coordinated by the Climate Change Coalition of Door County.
Habitat Healers meet every Saturday, 9:30-11:30 am; and, beginning in May, on Tuesdays, 4:30-6:30 pm, throughout the growing season, to help with plant restoration. The first three sessions in May are designated as Big Plant Days, when volunteers of any age, background or experience (or no experience) are invited to help plant shrubs and trees.
Participate once or every week. Crossroads at Big Creek, 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay, provides training and equipment, and work parties end with refreshments.
