Birch Creek of Door County Announces 2011 Concert Season

Now in its 36th year, Birch Creek Music Performance Center has announced its 2011 summer concert season, which will run from June 23 through August 13.

Birch Creek Symphony session concerts will begin with Opening Night on Thursday, June 23 and run through Saturday, July 2. The Birch Creek Symphony Orchestra combines advanced students and world-class faculty performing side-by-side.

During the Percussion & Steel Band series, with concerts running from July 7 through July 16, Program Director Robert Chappell and Steel Band Director Al O’Connor will lead numerous ensembles through styles from calypso to Afro-Cuban.

Big Band Jazz concerts will run from July 20 through August 13. Audiences will enjoy the Faculty Academy Band as they present familiar works by Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and more. Other highlights of the Big Band Jazz sessions include the Dutton Memorial Concert, honoring Birch Creek’s co-founder James Dutton, to be held on Friday, July 29.

The Gibraltar Grill will again host The Ambassadors on July 22 and 27 and August 4 and 10. Special fundraising events will include the “Style Show & Luncheon” at the Horseshoe Bay Members’ Clubhouse on Thursday, July 14; “Club Jazz at Stone’s Throw Winery” on Sunday, July 24 will feature an evening of jazz by Birch Creek faculty; and the “Island Clipper Sunset Cruise” is set for Friday, August 12.

Birch Creek Music Performance Center is located at 3821 County Highway E, near Egg Harbor. All concerts begin at 8 pm with pre-concert music beginning at 7:30 pm unless otherwise noted.
