Birch Creek Receives Wisconsin Arts Board Grant

The efforts of Birch Creek Music Performance Center, Inc. to provide quality music education and serve Door County culturally and economically were recognized with a grant for $11,540 from the Wisconsin Arts Board competitive grant program. Birch Creek matches Arts Board funds with funds raised locally.

The Creation and Presentation Grant provides artistic program and operational support to established, nonprofit arts organizations whose primary mission is to create or present ongoing arts programming that make a significant local, regional or statewide impact on the cultural life of Wisconsin. Support from the State of Wisconsin helps Birch Creek fulfill its mission to provide intensive, performance-based instruction to promising young musicians by immersing them in a professional, mentoring environment.

The summer music academy and concert venue has been a Wisconsin institution since 1975, educating hundreds of promising young musicians each summer and providing concerts for tourists and residents alike. Through job creation, purchased services, and family-purchased meals and lodging, Birch Creek has had an economic impact on the Door County community of more than $4 million over the past eight years.

With a performance emphasis, Birch Creek students are taught by nationally known performers and educators during the day, and perform alongside them in concerts at night. Four sessions focus on Percussion & Steel Band, Symphony, and Big Band Jazz. 2016 concert and session dates are posted at birchcreek.org.
