Birch Creek’s Steel and Percussion Band Returns for Special Concert

Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Egg Harbor is pleased to welcome select percussion & steel band faculty back to Birch Creek on Sept. 19, 7:30 pm, for a special fall concert.

The returning faculty will include Liam Teague, “Pagani of Steelpan,” and director of the Birch Creek Steelpan Band, who has received many awards in his homeland of Trinidad and Tobago, and won a number of notable competitions such as the Trinidad and Tobago National Steelband Festival Solo Championship. Other returners include Ben Wahlund, Birch Creek Percussion Program Director and Grammy nominated educator; Dan Moore, nationally recognized marimba artist and director of the award-winning percussion program at the University of Iowa; Dane Richeson, renowned world percussionist and Professor of Music at Lawrence University Conservatory of Music; and Yuko Asada, Birch Creek Steel Band Assistant Director.

The concert will include arrangements of the Doobie Brothers classic, “Blackwater,” Sting’s “Shape of My Heart,” and Marc Cohn’s hit, “Walking in Memphis.”

This performance is part of Birch Creek’s brand new Fall Concert Series, a sequence of three concerts to run from September to October this fall. This series will also include Swing/Dixieland Jazz outfit Talk of the Town on Sept. 26, and Birch Creek’s fall fundraiser concert and catered dinner, Bach to Broadway, on Oct. 11.
